Red Dog poker is normally played with two standard decks. The cardvalues are the same as in poker, the suits are not relevant and Ace always countes as 14.
The game starts with the player makes a bet and the dealer add two cards on the table.

If the cards are in a row, fex 9-10, the hand is a push and the bet paid back.
If the two cards are of the same denomination, a third card is dealt, and if its also of the same rank the player wins 11:1 on the bet. If its not, this is also a push.
If the two cards are neither in a row or of the same denomination, the dealer announses the spread between the cards. If the cards are 4 and 10 the spread is 5. The player now has the chance to double the bet.
The player wins if the third card's value is between the first two. The payout will be higher if the spread between the first two is small.

1 card spread: Pays 5:1
2 card spread: Pays 4:1
3 card spread: Pays 2:1
4 + card spread: Pays 1:1

Now its only a few days left until WSOP 2008 starts. At Friday the 30 of May the first event, the world championship of PL Holdem starts. The tournament is played over 3 days and has a buy in of $10000.
Last years winner of this event was the Full Tilt Poker pro Allen Cunningham who cashed in a first prize of $487287. Last years buy in for this event was only $5000, so this year it will be even more interesting.
This years World Series are 55 different events where the Main Event, which starts 3 of July, is the main attraction.

Heads-up clash at a $200/$400 No-Limit Hold'em table produces biggest reward for September thus far

According to the poker information site High Stakes Poker Database, a Swede named Ingrid boosted (his,the players real name is probably Jonas Danielson) bank balance by a very useful $330 000 this week on the Microgaming Poker Network.

Nicknamed "Ingrid_Swede" and playing heads up in mid-September in a $200/$400 No-Limit Hold'em final confrontation with competing finalist "I_Knockout_U," the player took down the largest pot of the month so far, collecting a paycheck of $330 000 in a single hand.

HSPD reports that the heads-up battle was competitive and tense, and a number of significant pots had already been played, when Ingrid_Swede raised to $1 400 from the button. I_Knockout_U re-raised to $4 400 and Ingrid_Swede called.

On the 6d-7d-8c flop, I_Knockout_U bet out $8 200. Ingrid_Swede raised to $28 000, and I_Knockout_U responded by moving all-in for a total of $160 967. Ingrid_Swede called immediately.

Qs-3s finished out the board, ushering in the showdown. I_Knockout_U showed 9h-8h for a pair of nines and a busted straight-draw. Ingrid_Swede had, however, flopped the nuts holding Tc-9c, and took home the $330 732.64 pot.

In addition to being the biggest pot so far for September, the win is the fifth biggest on the High Stakes Poker Database.

How to beat the loose aggressive player.

Online poker players seems to become more and more loose and aggressive. If they are weak its fine for you. You will take their money in the long run, even if they will give you a high standard deviation. On their lucky days they can win really big from you but most of the time they will loose their money.
But there is also a lot of relatively strong loose aggressive players out there now days especially in the 6 seated tables I prefer to play.
And it can be very frustrating for a tight aggressive player to play against this player type.
They raise pre almost every hand and you fold and fold again. Until you get a big pair. You raise big pre flop, 2 callers. Flop comes J-9-2 rainbow. Of course you bet the flop big, 1 caller. A 5 on turn and you have to bet strong here too. But now you are re raised all-in. Since you know the raiser is bluffing and semi bluffing frequency you have to call and he win with his J-9. This is not good. Even if your preflop raise where relatively big your opponent ends up winning a pot big enough to justify his loose preflop call.
So what can you do to fight back against this kinds of opponents?
You can bet much bigger preflop with your good cards . Then you are not giving the necessary odds for loose calls, but it can also result in that your opponents just fold those pots and you ends up winning only the blinds with your AA.
You will beat them if you can get a good read on them and fold when they have you beat. But this kind of players can call with almost any two cards and its nearly impossible to get a read on them. And if you fold too often to their big raises they will run you over with bluffs.
But there is one very good strategy against the loose aggressive players which will make you beat them big in the long run and in addition gives you a very low standard deviation.
The Short Stack Strategy
If you consequently play with a short stack against loose and loose aggressive players and correctly adjusts to short stack play, a lot of things change and most of them to your advantage.
The typical buy in in no limit Holdem are 100 times the BB. And almost all good players buy in for the maximum amount. But is this the best stack size? Maybe it is if you are superior your opponents in every way, but most of the time you are not.
Against loose aggressive opponents a stack size of 25-35 times the BB gives you a big advantage.
If you are in a NL1-2 game with a stack of 60 you still raise to 12 preflop with a good hand. Now you are only offering implied odds of 4:1 for your opponents and it can never be correct to call with hands like J-9. But they will still call you. Even if its wrong to call because of your small stack your opponents will almost never adjust to this.
With a raise and a call in front of you can go all in with hands like A-K, A-Q and 99. To do so with a big stack is suicide, when you are called they probably have AA or KK, but with this stack size it becomes correct.
And if you have a raise in front of you when you have a big pair its just to go all in. And they will call you with all sorts of hands. They feel like they can take a chance with this limited amount and call your short all in.
A big advantage is that your opponents if they don’t know you will probably underestimate your game, most short stacked players are weak.
Your opponents will also have much harder to bluff you. Your odds for calling will almost always be very good and you don’t risk much by calling.
There are of course some downsides too. You cant bluff your opponents often. Your stack are too small to scare anybody. You will be called often so you always need a decent hand when you are in a pot.
You cant call raised pots with some types of hands like small pairs and suited connectors, you can only play medium and big pairs and big cards.
When you double up your stack is not that short anymore so you have to adjust your strategy, or you can leave the table and start with a small stack on another table.

Players
Up to 10 players are allowed to play in the same game.
Dealer
In Omaha a button (the "dealer button") indicates who the dealer is. The deal moves clockwise between the players.
Blinds
Omaha is played with two blinds, the "small blind" and the "big blind". Before any cards are dealt the blinds must be posted. The player to the left of the dealer posts the small blind and the next player in turn posts the big blind. The blinds are considered as "live" bets. If you have posted a blind you are only required to make up the difference, if any, between the blind and the current bet. The players in the blinds have the option to fold, call, check or raise in turn.
Deal
Each player receives 4 cards dealt face down. These 4 cards are called the "hole cards". After that there will be 3 community cards dealt face up on the board, "the flop". Then another community card, "the turn" or "fourth street" will be dealt. Finally the last community card, "the river" or "fifth street", will make it 5 cards showing on the board.
Betting order
In Omaha there are 4 betting rounds. The first betting round takes place after each player is dealt his hole cards. In this round the player to the left of the big blind is first to act. In the following betting rounds the first active player to the left of the dealer button starts the action.
Showdown
If no more betting takes place, after all the cards have been dealt out, there is a showdown to determine the winner. The best 5 card hand wins the pot. The players must use exactly 2 of their 4 hole cards and 3 community cards. If two or more players show the same hand they split the pot. If there was betting on fifth street the player who made the last bet or raise must show his hand first. If there was no betting the first remaining player to the left of the dealer shows his hand first.

There is two variations of Omaha, High and High/Low. Omaha High, where only the highest hand win is the most common form so I will focus on that.

Pot Limit Omaha
The most common betting structure for Omaha is Pot limit. The pot limit game limits betting and raises to a maximum that is currently in the pot. If the pot holds $20, you can not bet more than $20. If you are raising on a player's bet, your call is included in the pot already. If, for example, the pot is $In a Pot Limit Game, the maximum bet/raise can't be more than the current pot amount. So, if the pot is $30, you can't bet more than $30. If you are raising on a bet, the call is already included in the pot. For example, if the pot is $30 and Player A opens the betting round with a bet of $30 and it is now your turn to bet, the most you can bet $90 (The pot's $30 plus the bet from Player A of $30 plus your bet of $30)

In a full ring Omaha game it usually takes a very strong hand to win. Two pair and trips don't win very often in this game. You need to shoot for the nut straight, nut flush, or nut full house most of the time. You have 4 pocket cards in Omaha which gives everyone 6 Texas Holdem starting hands. You can use card 1+2 1+3 1+4 2+3 2+4 3+4. If you are in a pot with five other players after the flop, it is almost comparable to a Texas Holdem game against thirty other players, because each of your five competitors is holding six Holdem hands instead of one.

As in most forms of poker your starting hand strategy is extremely important if you want to be a winner at Omaha. There seems to be a universal tendency to call pre flop with weak hands. A lot of Omaha hands looks good to the inexperienced player.

A good Omaha starting hand is not a hand including one or two good Texas hands all four hole cards need to work well together.

As in Texas Holdem, your position is very important and you can loosen up your starting hand requirements slightly in late position if nobody has shown strength.

Omaha strategy for drawing hands

The most important thing for Omaha strategy is to draw to the nuts as often as possible. If you are playing for a flush it should be nuts you are aiming for. The same applies to straights as well. Otherwise you will end up losing a lot of money to players who only ever draw to the nuts in the long term.

The strategy for winning in Omaha requires pot manipulation. You need to get more money in when you have clearly the best of it; play for cheap when you don't. Nut hands and nut draws using quality cards can "drive the betting" whereas non-nut hands cannot.

Bluffing

Bluffing should be done very rarely in Omaha. With everyone getting four cards there is a big chance that someone has the key card in question, especially in a long-handed game. Omaha also tends to be a far looser game than Texas holdem so you will find that most of your bluffs are called.

Concern is growing in online chat rooms and news groups devoted to poker that sophisticated card-playing robots – known as “bots” – are being used in online poker rooms.
The fact is that such Poker Bots do exists. The question is are they good enough to beat you? and Can the poker rooms stop them?
One poker bot software areWinHoldEm, the first commercially available autoplaying poker software. It also has a team mode that makes it possible to collude with other players running WinHoldEm at the table.
Poker site operators say there's nothing to worry about, and for them there isn't. For now, sites continue to earn healthy profits because they make money by taking a percentage - the "rake" - of every pot. "If anyone's losing money because of the bots, it's the players," says Poker Academy CEO Kurt Lange. "It's inevitably going to become a serious problem when they figure out that bots win hundreds of thousands of dollars per year.
This is a serious problem for the online gambling business. Players come online seeking a "fair" shot - a contest against other humans, not robots. So the poker sites loudly proclaim that automated play is no big deal. At the same time, they are fighting back by quietly scanning for and eliminating suspicious accounts.
